ELVIO COGNO DOLCETTO D'ALBA MANDORLO 750ML

Grape: Dolcetto Tasting Notes: Rhubarb, Black Cherry, Spice, Leather The Cogno family has been making wine for four generations in Piedmont. In 1990, Elvio Cogno left a long and fruitful partnership with the venerable Barolo producer Marcarini at La Morra and bought a splendid farmhouse that was surrounded by vineyards. For the next 20 years, he devoted himself to the winemaking traditions handed down to him by his father and grandfather. Elvio, in turn, has now passed the torch to his daughter, Nadia, and her husband, Valter Fissore, who has worked beside Elvio for 25 years. I had the pleasure of visiting this beautiful, modern facility in 2019. The view is incredible and so were the wines. This wine does a terrific job of showcasing the elegant side of this workhorse grape. Powdery tannins, medium acidity, medium body, and only sees stainless steel. Robust notes of blackberry, blueberry, red fruit, spices, leather, and earth hit the palate. Age a year or two for full development, but drinkable while still young. Pair with pasta, soups, salamis, and soft, fresh cheeses.
