TASTING NOTES: Fresh, rich red fruits dominates the nose highlighted with an herbal earthy element. On the palate, the terroir of the d'Anguera brothers really shines through, with loads of minerality and brambly fruit intermingling with spice and earth. Complex and refreshing, PRODUCTION NOTES - Located between the coastal mountain range and the Ebro valley in northeastern Spain, Celler Joan d’Anguera represents a more Mediterranean expression of the D.O. of Montsant but within that context, these are remarkable elegant expressions of Garnatxa (Grenache) and Carinyena (Carignan). Farming is biodynamic (certified) and that intense attention to every detail extends to the cellar as well. The Planella bottling is composed of 65% Carignan, 25% Syrah, and 10% Grenache from estate vines on north-facing slopes over limestone and clay soils. After hand-picking the grapes, the fruit ferments in concrete vats using indigenous yeasts. It is then moved to French oak barriques where it ages for 12 months. 40% of the wine is fined with egg whites and all wine is bottled unfiltered.
