Grown for the last 500 years in Chile, Pais is about as close to an "indigenous" wine grape as the Americas get! Brought over in the 16th centrury by Spanish conquistadores, Chile's Pais vines are the oldest on planet earth too! Chile is blessed with sandy soils, one of the few enviroments resistant to the pesty phyloxerra louse that nearly destroyed the European wine industry in the late 1800's. You're hard pressed to find 150 year old vines anywhere in Europe, the youngest vines going into this wine are about that old! In addtion to being a great story, this wine delivers in the glass as well, with delicate red fruits, intriguing herbal components, and earthy minerals through the finish!
